Sleep (or lack of sleep!) Update

We got the results from Davis' sleep study this week. But we're still just as frustrated. Basically, he doesn't sleep. He had 110 arousals during the night, which resulted in him not sleeping much. We already knew that! His pulmonologist thinks it is possibly reflux related. He had a few desats, but nothing too major like he did as a baby. He has some mild obstructive apnea, but it's unknown why. So our next step is to treat his reflux and see how he does. Hopefully, this will help a lot because the next step is to try taking his tonsils out and put him on some oxygen at night. This poor kid can't catch a break. He goes in to see his pediatrician tomorrow and we'll see what he says. Everyone cross your fingers for him!

It's My Birthday???!

The first thing out of Davis' mouth today was "It's my birthday? I'm 4 now?" For the last week, he's asks several times a day "How many days til my birthday?" He's been so excited to be 4, especially since his "bestest buddy" turned 4 two weeks ago. We let him open his presents first thing. We bought Spencer's old Gameboy and some games from him, bought a skin for it, and VOILA! Davis has his own Gameboy. Now he doesn't have to swipe anyone else's.

Kim had told me about the "Who-cakes" at IHOP, so I knew I had to take Davis on his birthday. We dropped off Spencer and Seth at school and met Kim and Hunter at IHOP for breakfast. Davis got "Who-cakes" and Tiara got green eggs and ham. I thought Davis would dig in quickly to his pancakes, but he was a little hesitant. After he sat there looking at them for a while, I finally got him to take a bite (only after he tested them on McCall!) He ended up eating quite a bit. Tiara loved her green eggs (eggs with spinach), but not the ham so much. McCall, of course, ate everything!
After breakfast, I took him to cash his check from Grandma Carol & Grandpa Howard and then to Target. He quickly picked out a gameboy game and some Cars cars. Thank you Grandma & Grandpa! The rest of the day was pretty normal. Spencer & Seth had a baseball game--against Talon--so Davis got to play with Hunter some more. They are so cute together and just the best little friends. We stopped for dinner at Carl's Jr. and then headed home for birthday cake. He had a great day and fell asleep quickly after such a busy day. Happy Birthday, Davis!!

Going the extra mile

Dave ran in the SLC marathon Saturday. He'd been trying to train for the last several months, but spring got in the way. Between baseball, trips, loss of motivation and the time change, it didn't go so well the last 3 weeks. But, he stuck with it and ran the race. I was so proud of him for doing it. That's something I don't think I could ever do.

I think he's glad he did it (now that he can walk again!) He loved it so much that he ran a little extra. Not on purpose, mind you, but he took "going the extra mile" to a new level. The marathon and 1/2 marathon routes run together for the first few miles of the race. Then they split at Sugarhouse park and rejoin for a block and split again. Well, I guess Dave was just running along with the crowd and not paying much attention, because when they rejoined, he took off and followed the 1/2 marathoners when they split the second time. It didn't take too long before he realized he was with a bunch of runners that had different colered bibs than him. OOPS!! He stopped to look at a map and ask for directions (yes, some men do!) only to find out that inorder to catch back up with the marathon route he had to run almost a mile UPHILL! He did it and got back on track but, arghh, why would anyone want to run extra? So Dave did his 27.2 marathon and lived to tell about it, although I don't think he'll ever want to so that again.

Wired!!!

Poor Davis. This kid has been through more in his short 4 years than I 've been through in 40. After almost 3 years of no oxygen, we're finally admitting that he still has problems sleeping (and breathing). He has this funky breathing pattern at times, grinds his teeth, swallows funny when asleep and doesn't sleep well at night. He wakes up a couple times at night and then complains of being tired all day. When I mentioned this to his pediatrician, he couldn't believe I hadn't called the pulmonologist. Well, I finally did and this was the result....

Another sleep study. Yuck!! We won't get any results for a little while, but we're just hoping it shows what he REALLY does when asleep. Whatever the answer is, we just want him to be okay. At this point, we don't know if his problems are real sleep problems or behavioal problems. The only good thing is that we'll know what goes on with him and can work to fix it.

Happy Birthday, Seth!

Today has finally come. Seth has been asking for weeks how many more days until his birthday. He wants to be 6. Well, it finally came. Today, he woke up early. He had lots on his to-do list. He wanted to see his balloons, open his presents, play with his new DS game from Grandpa & Grandma Martin and have his party. Dave and I are not too hip on waking up early, so we told him he had to get dressed for school before he could do anything. Poor kid. It had more to do with us wanting a few more minutes in bed than with him getting ready. We finally got everyone up about 7:00 and watched him open his presents. He was so excited. He has wanted "the truck that turns into a gun" since Christmas. Had I known he wanted it that bad, Santa would have brought it. I thought it looked like some silly toy, but he's been lusting after it for months. He got a check in the mail from Grandma Carol & Grandpa Howard yesterday and wanted to go immediately to the store to buy it. I had to think of every excuse to not take him. He's been in heaven all day with his new truck/gun. Spencer's quite jealous and has tried everything to get Seth to let him control it. (Lucky for Seth, he's smart and won't let Spencer pull one over on him.) The only problem now is what to do with the money he got for his birthday. I don't think he has any other plans now that he has his coveted Transformer.

He went to school and when I picked him up, I let him choose where to go for lunch. This is the last year that I'll get to go to lunch with him on his birthday, so I didn't want to miss the chance. Of course, he chose McD's and Dave met us there, too.

He and Spencer had a baseball game tonight, so after that we all went to the Pie for dinner. It was a big celebration, not just for his birthday, but for Matt & Dalin, too. They both got a 4.0 last term! After dinner, we sang to him and had cake. (For those of you without little boys, the blue thing on the cake is the Decepticon logo.) Overall, I think he had a great day. Thank you to all the Grandmas and Grandpas for the money/presents. When he figures out what he wants, I'll have him let you know what he bought.

Start 'em Young

Today, the Relief Society President came over to visit. Whenever someone is at the door, Tiara likes to hang out and listen in on the conversation. We were talking about webcams and blogging and how easy it is for family to keep in touch that way. She likes to talk to her grandson over the webcam, and I was telling her I like to blog. Tiara disappeared and came back with her "keeping box". She then opened her box to show Brenda and said, "See? I block, too!" Like Mother, like Daughter!!

Overscheduled Mom???

Well, you'd think I had enough to do with 8 kids, a husband, 5 baseball teams, piano lessons, 4 schools and a neverending pile of laundry. But I guess not!! I've been interested in being on the Bingham Baseball Board for a few years, but have never had the opportunity at the right time. Well, while I was at a meeting Monday, I somehow got myself recruited. I'm now on the Board and wondering what I was thinking. As I stayed up until after 3 am inputting baseball rosters for over 300 kids, I couldn't believe what I've gotten myself into. Luckily, I'm not the only one doing the job. Right now, I'm just at large, helping out the secretary and learning the ropes. I'm excited to be a part of the Board, especially with how many boys we have playing every year. Dave's been really supportive (he even went out last night to get me Diet Coke and M&M's), which makes it easier for me to do this. I really enjoy being a part of my kids' lives. It's fun to help out at school and be involved with what they're doing. But I think I may have overscheduled myself a bit right now. If I had known I'd be on the Board this season, I never would have agreed to be the Team Mom for 2 teams. Baseball season is crazy enough around here! Oh well. This, too, shall pass.
